Curriculum

The Theatrical Techniques module is conceived in order to ease the student's communication in public by means of theatrical methods, in general, and particularly by means of theatrical  art techniques and excercises. Presence and communication in public circumstances are two fundamental elements – if well prepared and practiced – in achieving any speaker's goal  of influencing the attitude of those who see and listen to him/her. Preparation with the help of  this module offers the possibility of improving one's performance regarding one's own public presence and the "stage" communication abilities.

This module will also provide elements of technique regarding "the Role" assumed by the speaker in public. The exercises that accompany the process of  preparing "the role" involve both the physical component, of  gesticulatory  and body language on the whole, as well as the performance in the act of communication.

  1. Image
    • Exercises of self-knowledge. How do I see myself? How do I hear myself? How do I move in different types of spaces?
    • Exercises of covering the space: with the look, through body attitude. Visual contact, sound contact with the audience in a certain space.
    • Working with objects (visual materials, demo, etc.) in public situations.

  2. Gestures
    • Gesticulatory language. Exercises of improvisation. Creating the individual gesticulatory profile.
    • Techniques, exercises of relaxation and self-control.
    • Adapting to given circumstances.

  3. Body
    • Body language. Physical communication.
    • Practicing the bodily presence in order to be seen and heard as well as possible.
    • Voice emission. Techniques, methods of control and self-control.
    • Persuasive, theatrical, captatio speech techniques.

  4. The character
    • "The show" of speaking in public. Communication as a "story".
    • Exercises of stage speaking  technique.
    • Composing "the character": me and my public.
    • Methods of emphasizing the visibility on "stage".

  5. The Presence
    • "The script" of public presence through speaking.
    • Rehearsals for the public performance of the speech.
    • From the text to the image. Exercises of seduction.
